Is it possible to load data from excel file into planning book in vers 3.0A?

Did any one have loaded data from excel file into APO-DP planning book?

I know this facility was provided in APO 4.0 onwards (readings from sap.com).
 

You can get someone to write a program in abap that will be able to read from the excel sheet. We did do something like this once. But is there any reason why you dont want to use .csv (we had to use excel sheet since the users were not willing to change from excel and since the format was not simple we used some rows and columns as markers)

There is something on note 551972 on an APO loader whose description seems to match what you want(havent tried it)

Alternately you should be able to use some 3rd party apps available which will do the excel to .csv conversion(which can run as a step in your job to load)

or

There is an 'easy' way to do it using the normal BIW tools

1. Create a DataTarget with all needed characteristics and key figures.
2. Create a SourceSystem for a PC Flat File
3. Create a Infosource and a Infopackage

Now load the Data from the CSV file into the DataTarget an use transaction TSCUBE to upload the data from the DataTarget into the planing area ( DP ).

This is a very short and not complete description but it works.
