Which Windows Version is the one to work with SAPGUI?

SAPGUI supported on Windows 7 and Vista (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, Enterprise) is GUI 7.10.

If you are attempting to install the SAP client version 7.2 and on windows 7 64-bit machine.  Try to have a look at this note:

What is the difference between SAP Web Client and SAP GUI?

The purpose of web client is to access SAP servers from anywhere. Generally Non-power users use the web client as they are continuously on the move and their responsibilities are more of supervisory nature thereby they are accessing more of reporting functionality like reports, rather then the full SAP GUI.

The strategy should be to roll out the SAP GUI to those Super Users who really need to be in the system often, entering data or doing config. or creating new reports, etc. For casual users it is advisable to either use the web client, or the portal for access.

This approach is perfectly correct. This is because of the following reasons:

1. Transaction processing time through web access is twice as much as that of SAP GUI.

2. There is always a possibility of disconnection in web access during transaction processing leading to complications if there is a disconnection during transaction processing.

3. If the number of web users accessing SAP is high it would slow down the system performance which is not the case in case of SAP GUI.

Company have the choices

With SAP GUI for Windows, SAP GUI for HTML and SAP GUI for Java (the SAPGUI family), SAP let you make the choice which of the GUIs works the best for your users. But that depends on your environment and on the type of your users.

If you have power users i.e. in a call center, where every second counts you may want to prefer the native high performance SAP GUI for Windows for these users. The drawbacks of that choice are that you have to worry about the software installations, upgrades, etc.. For users who work with SAP transactions, but don't require the performance of a native GUI, you might consider SAPGUI for HTML. It runs within standard browsers on Windows, Linux and MacOS X. You don't have to worry about expensive software installations, but you will surely not get the performance of an natively running software. If have have PCs with non-Windows operating systems and don't want to use a web based solution you should check SAPGUI for Java.

SSO (Single Sign-On) should not be criteria, because it works with all SAP GUIs, not only SAP GUI for HTML.

Bottom line:

Which SAP GUI is the best, depends on the requirements and tasks of your users. For some of your users the SAP GUI for Windows might be the choice, for others SAPGUI for HTML.
