Milestone And Milestones Functions

What are milestone?

Milestones are events that are of particular significance to the project flow. You can assign milestones to activities or WBS elements.

If you want to use particular milestones several times in project planning, you should create standard milestones, and use these as templates to copy from.

You use milestones in the Project System for the following tasks and functions:

1. To trigger defined milestone functions in activities

2. For the milestone technique of progress analysis

3. To determine dates in a sales order

4. For information purposes

5. For milestone trend analysis

Milestone functions are functions in a network that are predefined by SAP. You can use them to trigger a sequence of steps that carry out a business process. e.g.

1. Release subsequent activities

2. Release up to stop indicator

3. Include standard network

4. Create network

5. Include subnetwork

6. Start workflow task

Problem Or Issues From Users

What is the purpose of using "Release stop Indicator" and how does it work. How does trend analysis indicator work (related to dates in Milestone)?

Answer

Release up to Stop Indicator -  It is like an activity milestone. It is used to release all subsequent activities. The automatic release process stops when it reaches activities that have been assigned a release stop indicator.

Trend Analysis Indicator - This is used to analyze the trend of the milestone dates based on planned and actual dates. It is used for Milestone trend analysis done in CNMT tcode.

Milestone Function No Working

I have created three network activities,

I attached 1st milestone to the 1st activity using the function "release to stop indicator" and the system status which I chosen was 'REL'.

Then second milestone to the third activity and marked it as stop indicator.

When I am releasing the 1st activity, other activities are not getting released automatically.

Answer

In order to make this work you should set the milestone Function "release up to stop indicator" in the first activity.

In the third activity, you should create another milestone and set the flag "stop indicator".

Then you should link activities 1, 2 and 3 with relationships. If the activities are not linked, the function to release up to stop indicator will not be triggered.
