Defining Storage Type

Explain storage type used in SAP Warehouse Management.

A warehouse Complex is divided into several different areas to store materials in different manner, for example High Rack Storage Area, Bulk Storage Area, GR Area, GI Area etc.

In SAP WM, the Storage Type have several controls.

Header Level Controls include

-  Storage Unit Management is activated or not for this Storage Type

-  Storage type is defined as ID point.

- Storage type is defined as a Pick Point
 

Stock Placement Controls include

- Stock placement strategy is used for this storage type

- Stock Placement Requires Transfer Order Confirmation or not.

- Capacity check method used for finding storage space while stock putaway. This options is used when storage capacity of a Storage bin is limited.

- Mixed Storage allowed, if yes, then what type of mixed storage is allowed for this storage type.

- Addition to Existing Stock is allowed in any storage bin in this storage type.

- Storage bins in this storage types can retain over deliveries or not.

- ID point for this storage type, if any.

- Activation of an User Exit for stock placement in this storage type.
 

Stock Removal Controls include

- Stock removal strategy is used for this storage type.

- Stock Removal Requires Transfer Order Confirmation.

- Negative stock allowed in this storage type . This indicator is activated only for interim storage types (areas)

- Full stock need to be removed from the storage bin of this storage type or not.

- Remaining stock need to be returned to the same bin or not.

- In case the remaining stock , required to be moved to some other storage type, then Return Storage type is Maintained for this storage type.

- Pick point for this storage type, if any.

- To activate Zero Stock check type of Physical inventory method, the indicator, Execute Zero Stock Check is activated

- Rounding off for picking quantities activated or not. If this indicator is set over here, then the rounding quantities need to be maintained in the material master record for that material.

Notes: 

The interim storage types (900-999) are required for various postings (for example, GR and GI postings, and differences) in WM. When you define your warehouse numbers, copy the interim storage types from warehouse number 001.
