Scenario on How The Data Flows in APO

Walk through a scenario on how the data flows when these components are involved.

Components : BI ,Live cache, CIF, APO/ Master data, Transactional data

Let’s take one scenario in that you have to transfer data from R/3 to APO & Vice versa.

1. Now you have BI system & we you need to transfer Sales History data from R/3 to APO. In that case BI, APO-BW & APO come in to picture. First you have to create Generic data source user the sales data table & replicate to external BI or APO-BW. Then create whole extraction process. Extract the data from R/3 & keep in APO-BW or BI & then transfer to DP Planning area for forecasting purpose.

2. Now you both APO-DP & APO-SNP. Scenario is like this first you need to create forecast & then transfer to SNP for planning purpose say Optimiser Run. Before doing these steps you have some master data in to APO say Product Master ( which is called Material Master in R/3), Resource (Work Center), PPM or PDS (Prod. Version). Now, transfer these master data to APO you required Core Interface to transfer these data. Now for planning you required some transactional data too say Stocks, Sales order etc. for that purpose you required core Interface. After planning you can transfer planned order, Purchase requisition to R/3 through core Interface.

I have mentioned below two scenarios both with master data and transactional data involving the components as requested.

1) Master Data:- (BI, Livecache, CIF, APO)

a) All master data are maintained in R/3 system.

b) They are transferred to APO from R/3 via Core interface (CIF).

c) In CIF, the data are getting updated into APO and in livecache.

d) Livecache is functionality used to store time & order series in APO.

e) Livecache is used for transformation and irretrievability of data for planning involved operations.

f) BI is a tool used to collect, update and extract data from all its integrated components (SAP & non-sap).

g) It is also used as a reporting tool (BI).

h) If any change is done in master data in R/3, it will update the APO system and in turn to its connected systems.

2) Transactional data:-

a) Transactional data are executed from R/3 system.

b) Transactional data also can be generated from APO system and in turn gets updated to R/3 system.

c) Transactional data in general moves from R/3 to APO as OLTP (Online transaction processing).

d) In APO, the transactional data are stored in time series and in Order series.

e) DP uses time series data whereas SNP uses order series data.

f) Both time series and orders series data are stored in livecache.

g) All transactional data are pulled into BI for data extraction and reporting purposes.
