Configure The Archivelink Scenario

How to Configure the ArchiveLink Scenario in SAP

SAP ArchiveLink is an essential tool for integrating external storage solutions with SAP systems, enabling secure and efficient document archiving. To activate the "Store Business Document" service in a transaction, specific configurations must be set. This guide outlines each step required to configure the ArchiveLink scenario effectively.

1. Set Up a Content Repository

To store and manage documents in SAP using ArchiveLink, you need to configure a content repository with the correct parameters. Follow these steps:

  • Repository ID: Ensure it is exactly 2 characters long.
  • Document Area: Set it as ARCHLINK to enable document archiving.
  • Storage Type: Choose HTTP Content Server to store documents externally.
2. Define Document Types

The document types must be configured to determine how different document formats are handled. This can be done using one of the following methods:

  • Using Transaction Code: OAC2
  • Via SPRO Navigation:
    • SAP Reference IMG → SAP Customizing Implementation Guide
    • SAP NetWeaver → Application Server
    • Basis Services → ArchiveLink → Basic Customizing → Edit Document Types

Document Class Assignment

Each document type must be assigned a document class (file type), such as:
  • PDF
  • TXT
  • Wildcard (*) – This allows any file format.
Important: If a document type is assigned with a wildcard (*), ensure that the option "Always copy document class from document type" is unchecked in the OAG1 transaction.

3. Define Links to Transactions and Content Repository

For SAP to link business transactions with stored documents, you need to establish a connection between:

  • Object Type (Transaction Code)
  • Document Type
  • Content Repository
This linkage can be defined using:
  • OAC3 Transaction
  • Via SPRO Navigation:
    • SAP Reference IMG → SAP Customizing Implementation Guide
    • SAP NetWeaver → Application Services
    • Basis Services → ArchiveLink → Basic Customizing → Edit Links
To find the complete list of object types, use SWO3 Transaction.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can successfully configure the ArchiveLink scenario in SAP, enabling seamless document archiving and retrieval. Setting up a content repository, defining document types, and linking transactions ensures smooth business document management within SAP systems.
