We are planning to upgrade our
R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 and would like to know about testing strategy
in BW side. We have a sand box of the ECC 6 system and we will be
performing the test on this initially. Later there will be
upgrade on Development, Quality and Production systems.
I want to know what is the best way to perform testing to ensure there are no impact on BW. Do we need to ensure the data accuracy? If yes, what is the strategy to test the transaction data(Ex: MM, FI). --- We recently had this kind of upgrade in our landscape so I can help you with few of the testing tips: 1) Immediately after the upgrade you will have to check the source system connection, go to RSA1--> source systems and do a check. As ECC6.0 is Unicode system there will be some errors related to RFC connection and Unicode setting. 2) You need to check the authorizations assigned to background user in source system. Generally this kind of error also occurs. 3) Need to replicate all the data sources from source system, before replication it is better to have the pre-snapshots of DS fields. Which can be compared with post upgrade data sources. 4) Activate all the transfer structures using program e.g. RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL. 5) You should take the pre-snapshot of data for all the extractors, again which can be compared after upgrade. 6) Check whether all the delta extractions are working fine or not. Overall in the upgrade we didn't find major differences except nominal FI extractor changes. Considering the fact that we do not have LO extraction activated in our system. You might find some old extractors
getting replaced with new once.
What kind of FI extractor changes you faced after upgrade? How do you test the extractors? Can give me some of the extractors which are impacted with changes after upgrade? In this case, do we need to test all the extractors? --- Actually the extractor behavior changed in our case was one of the 'Z' extractor which pulls expense related data from R/3. Due to sort algorithm change the values assignment was changed for one of the key figure as it was getting assigned to row 1 earlier now it is getting assigned to row 10. Our functional team confirmed that there is no impact due to this assignment. It is good to have pre-snapshots of important extractor data samples, if possible you can do this for all the extractors. Later on you can compare the pre and post snapshots. |
