Mandatory To Extend Material In MMSC

Question:

For moving one material to multiple storage location is it mandatory to extend the material in MMSC?

Answer:

Yes, it is very much mandatory to extend the material for the storage location you want to transfer the stock.

The reason behind this is whenever you want to receive the stock in any of the storage location, how will system understand that this material is extended to the storage location.

So, either you extend the same in MMSC or you can do the same by MM01.

Also:

It depends on your customizing whether or not you have to create the storage location first.

Movements can be customized to create the storage location segment of material master itself with the first movement into a storage location.

If you don’t allow automatic storage location creation, then you have to extend the material master manually first with MMSC or MM01.

Configuration:

IMG -> Materials management -> Inventory management -> Goods receipt -> Create storage location automatically

IMG -> Materials management -> Inventory management -> Goods issues -> Create storage location automatically

IMG -> Materials management -> Inventory management -> Automatic movements -> Create storage location automatically

Here you define whether it is in general allowed for a plant to create the storage location segments of material master automatically .

Furthermore, you can define with what movement type it is allowed to create the storage location segment.
