Material descriptions are maintained in different languages. While creating a sales order in language A, the system fetches the material description in language B or vice versa. The expectation is that the material description should be fetched according to the user’s login language (language A) during sales order creation.
Reproducing the Issue
- Log in to SAP GUI in language A.
- Create a sales order in VA01.
- After adding a material to the sales order, the material description is displayed in language B.
The above-mentioned scenario occurs due to material description determination by standard design.
Resolution
The standard system determines the language of the material description in VA01/VA02 in three steps:
- It first takes the sold-to party language. If a description of the material exists in this language, the material description is populated in that language.
- If no material description is maintained for the sold-to party language, the system will use the language of the sales organization.
- If no sales organization language is maintained, the system will use the logon language.
